"Creativity is a Wild Mind and a Disciplined Eye"
-Dorothy Parker
I'm Kayla,
I'm a lifelong artist, creator, and learner. I knew from an early age I gravitated towards creating; it started with illustrating book covers at age 7, and tracing beloved Pokemon characters at age 9. I spent many days teaching myself art and becoming my own muse with my endless imagination and curiosity. By high school, my creativity only continued to flourish. There were definitely the marked highs and lows of high school, all while trying to find my own unique identity. For me, one thing stayed consistent. That one thing was art.
Art has always been my voice. Without finding the words, I knew I could communicate with a pencil and paints better. At the end of my high school journey, I was faced with a question: "What do you see yourself doing in 10 years?" For me, it confirmed I wanted to continue to communicate visually. This meant art. This meant, I also learnt, I am an endlessly passionate person.
I applied to Adelphi University as an Art Major, and graduated with a Bachelor in Fine Arts with a concentration in Graphic Design. I discovered my love for graphic design at Adelphi; and discovered just as art has always been my voice, graphic design is my voice too. I fell in love with the process of designing graphics, from taking something digital to print, to conceptually designing brands and making an idea come to life. I realized, graphic design is a super power, and allows you to communicate with the world. Visual communication has always been a hallmark of my character, and something I want to continue to always do. Graphic design is important to me because I'm able to help others solve creative problems and bring their ideas to life.
